10 Amazing Foods

What can make a food amazing?

I have been seeing so much in the news about what to eat, what not to eat; what will make you fat if you eat it, what is unhealthy for you. On and on - it never ends; diets and recipes galore.

So what makes an amazing food? You do!

By the way, did you know that you cannot patant a recipe? It is true. Why? Because all it takes is an extra pinch of salt to change it just enough -- same recipe but the ingrediants suddenly just *changed*. Rather weird. No wonder pop companies keep their **recipies** so closely guarded! Can you imagine if "Pepsi" got ahold of "Coke" or vise versa?

So what can make a food amazing? To me it is in what it DOES for me. An amazing food for me may not be the same for you. One example is fish. When I eat fresh walleye, within 20 minutes I *always* FEEL **Better*...! How? How do I explain better. I simply feel more serene, happier, better in general...it has never failed me and I never really noticed this until I was about 30! Sure, I always Loved fresh walleye -- but that was why!

So I began a bit of an experiment over the past holidays. Being around a lot more people that normal, who were also eating at this same time seemed to me to be the perfect time to ask a few questions and get some feedback on some of the foods that I find amazing.

My list of Amazing Foods

Here is my list of amazing foods and why. Please please add yours in the comment section and tell us all why it is an amazing food to you. I would also appreciate it if you let me know if you find any of my foods amazing too!

  1. Coffee - Oh love of my life! A study published by - Physiology & Behavior - says that I am speedier by 16% than a decaf drinker! I'm thinking faster, acting faster and also - I am also less likely to get adult on-set diabetes! Bonus!
  2. Garlic - I eat a lot of it. Why? Same reason as the walleye; it makes me feel better. I looked it up and here is apparently why. Research has found there are neurochemicals and certain enzymes in garlic which increase pleasure, relaxation and a feeling of serenity. This is due mainly to 1 chemical - serotonin. It also reduces anxiety.
  3. Yogurt - I adore yogurt, especially vanilla. I find it amazing because the tastes & texture are wonderful. Come to find out that it helps with the immune system too! It helps especially after one has been on an antibiotic. Antibiotics kill ALL our bacteria, not just the bad kind and yogurt puts the good kind of bacteria back!
  4. Dark Creamy Chocolate - It tastes awesome! It also lowers blood pressure while reducing bad cholesterol ! I was super happy to find this out. I also love Nutella (but to me that IS *dark creamy chocolate'!) It even increases flow of blood to brain which makes one think better.
  5. Olives - Black are my favorite but green are great too. Green olives are just a tad bit salty. I have always eaten olives and now I find out they get rid of headaches. Avocados and almonds are also high in monounsaturated fats, which are the reason that olives get rid of headaches. So say hello Olive and throw out the Ibuprofen!
  6. Avocados - I probably adore avocados because guacamole is made from them. Mainly it is all that is in guacamole besides a bit of lemon and cilantro. When I go to California I eat 6 large avocados in 3 days as I just cannot get enough of the stuff and I cannot get it where I live. Avacados also make an awesome facial treatment!
  7. Banana - I eat banana's more because I crave them. I don't crave them all the time but when I do, look out as I will eat a couple of bunches of them in a few days. Apparently the banana is full of antioxidants which fight off Alzheimer's. Research also discovered that plant chemicals known as polyphenols (also found in in banana's, apples and oranges, etc.) have been found recently to help shield brain cells from oxidative stress which is a key cause of Alzheimer's . That was brand new information for me.
  8. Kiwi - I am not big on eating fruit. Although I like banana's, besides the kiwi and a mango or two, I am not a big fruit eater. Kiwi's are fun little fruits to eat. I adore blueberries, raspberries and mulberries too. Apparently Kiwi's have an amazing fact - they contain 117% of your daily needed dose of vitamin C. There you go! 1 lil kiwi and your C for the day!
  9. Steak! - The RED meat! Full of Vitamin B12, studies are saying eating it I am 6 times less likely to lose brain function because as I get old, my brain won't shrink! YEA!
  10. Nuts - Favorites are Almonds, hazelnuts and cashews but I have come to find out that these are super healthy too! I probably consume too many of them but they are full of omega-3 and they also keep skin from drying out.

Ah, food glorious food. Fresh food is the only way to go! Rainbow Trout, Garlic, Onions, Elk, Blackberries and Avocados definitely top my list of amazing foods. Thanks for the hub, it's always interesting to see what foods everyone is into.

Wow, we are similar in our tastes! Or did you happen to pick foods that are popular with everyone, I wonder? I'll have to read the other comments you get to check...

I am definitely with you on the coffee, garlic, chocolate, olives, avocados and bananas. (In fact one of my ny's resolutions is to eat more avocados, as I love them but tend to forget all about them!)

My list would also include onions (pickled and non-pickled), ginger, liquorice and probably some kind of potato product. Oh, and tea. (Can I have 11?)

I love nearly all these foods except for coffee and garlic. So except for those two, I agree that the rest are amazing. Voting this Up and Interesting.

Yes I love them but not together! Heee!

Thank you very much for posting! What other food(s) do you love?

privateye2500 4 months ago

Dear Joe - I DO wish I loved onions...sigh...sadly enough I just can't seem to.

I have never had elk but I've had deer & moose. I like them but not nerly as much as BEEF steak! I also happen to know this lil' fact.

People can literally starve on moose meat. Because of what they eat, they don't give humans protien we need...being mainly why I eat any meat really...did you know that one?
