EMOTIONS

This New Years eve, with pen in hand and a snow storm galore, found me writing my New Years resolutions.  It occurred to me that it might come in handy to have a list of all the emotions people feel while doing this resolutions task.  It is a task I do every year and has transformed over time into quite a soul-searching tool.  So I jumped off my bed and ran to "Google it".   I decided I needed a list of ALL the emotions.

I ended up at Wikopedia thinking there would be a good long list of emotions there. Was I wong! Wow - I am so sadly disappointed by what I was faced with starring back at me from Wiki and the Internet in General. Has the poor internet never been to professional counseling? I think not! :}     However, many of the people online certainly have and I would have thought there would be far better information on emotions than I found.

I am currently editing wikopedia's details on EMOTIONS because wow it is Sorely lacking! Not only lacking but just plain Wrong...

Wikipedia says that Fear is the Opposite of Anger....???

It really states the opposite of Anger is Fear. That is ridiculous. Anger is generally Caused by Fear; is not the opposite of it!

The so called chart I found (see below) seems like something from the dark ages.

It is named: Plutchik's wheel of emotions:

--quote--"Robert Plutchik created a wheel of emotions in 1980 which consisted of 8 basic emotions and 8 advanced emotions each composed of 2 basic ones." -- unquote --

This little chart had me just reeling. Not only is it nearly totally inaccurate, it gives me pause to wonder the accuracy of all of the content...? The reason there are 8 and you see 4 is because they are simply switched around to make up 8...?

The Emotion Chart to the Right --->

Please let me hear your thoughts on this.  Although this chart is about 31 years old, even then how could it have been so distorted?

Emotion - Fear/Anger

On this topic - every book I have read on the subject has clearly indicated to me that anger is the result of fear, not its direct opposite. If I am angry - it is because I have a fear. Or...if I am afraid; it is because I am angry? I don't think so....

I don't believe they are related to one another in the opposite manner anymore so than in the afore-mentioned manner.

Are you Angry or/and Afraid...? IF...

1) You are going to lose something you want/need.

2) You are in real danger.

3) You perceive a threat.

Emotion Disgust/Trust

How are these the opposites of each other? I should *think* the opposite of trust should or would be distrust or suspicion...no Disgust...which means according to the dictionary - "repugnance caused by something offensive; strong aversion:"

I am hoping we can all talk to Wiki about this mess and get it sorted :} I for one am FEELING the Need to have an Accurate list of EMOTIONS!

1)  You can trust something that is disgusting.

2) You can be disgusted at someone you trust.

3) Trust is earned...?  While disgust is felt..?

EMOTION POLL

Do you think Emotions are Real or Passing Feelings - not reality?

  • Emotions are always very Real.
  • Emotions are real but not necessarily *reality*. They pass.
  • Emotions can be factual but can also be untrue.
  • Reality and feelings/emotions have little to do with each other.
  • Reality and emotions are closely related.
  • I have no clue!

Emotions Resentment/Remorse

There are probably literally over 1000 emotions and/or feelings.  Resentment is a big feeling or emotion - it can even be lethal.  It does not even get a mention in the chart of the (8) emotions.

The link on resentment there goes to a forum on Hub pages where it is being discussed.  I also fail to see how remorse and resentment are related.  I can totally resent someone or something and not be remorseful of them/it.  Remorse meaning guilt.....IE:  They are not related in my opinion.

These 2 feelings or emotions CAN be related but so then can ALL of them...which just brings me right back to confusion...or rather...where I started on this new years eve...with my pen in hand...

Of course we all have an opinion.  It's one of the things that makes all of us unique individuals.

I wish you would make this longer and expand on some of these...

I feel like I am sitting on the tip of an iceburg here awaiting to fall off.

You are onto something...but it is not yet complete.

Please some finish it. I see it is an old hub...I hope you are still around- it looks as though you are.
