Why Use Tracfones in Canada? Or what IS a Tracfone anyway?

By

Tracefone - The unbeatable cell phone

When it comes to mobile phones, cell phones, you simply cannot beat tracfones and boy oh boy do cell phone manufactures HATE that! But it's their own fault. Totally. They bloody raped everyone with huge fees that were (still are) totally uncalled for (haha-get the pun?).

The way the company I had used looked at it was this. I pay them 55.98 DOLLARS EVERY MONTH just for the PRIVILEDGE of USING THEIR SERVICE! BLAA - and that was before any call was even made!!! I shit you not! But I didn't really have a choice living in a remote area, one company services it and so, they have you by the gonads.

Until...the day...I found TRACFONE. Now, that has been some time ago. I ran across them because of the work I do and here is one excellent feature for all you cheaters out there, all those hiding from someone for what ever reason, those who are avoiding the IRS - the list is as endless as the problems we human beings get ourselves into.

- aside from your NEVER going to have a contract to use them, are completely and utterly UNTRACEABLE; If you are a battered wife - GET A TRACFONE - they cost all of between $15.00 for the basic model to a Whopping (gee) $35.00 for one with a CAMERA in it!

And here's the thing that I was amazed by - they are of high quality! I expected them to be just little crappy plastic disposable things - like those cameras where you send in the whole thing. Well, I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. They also sport a full color screen - Voicemail - call-waiting - Caller ID - an alarm clock, a stopwatch, a calculator...and all those features are on the $15.00 model!

On the $15.00 model (Motorola C139) you also get - for free - 20 included ringtones, 100 entry phonebook, AND standby time on a fully charged battery is approximately 18 DAYS. Battery talk time is about 11 HOURS.

This really IS one time when that saying "if it sounds to good to be true..." just does NOT apply! Oh, and if you don't want to use the Internet, just give them a call at 1-800-867-7183

Well, I was eating crow for dinner; I could not have been more wrong! They are just as nice (nicer even) than any cell phone out there, save perhaps the ones that cost $1000.00 or the diamond studded type (you know, that one you lost yesterday-yawn) - well for most of us, those are not an option in any event.

If everyone on hug bought this phone right now from this page, cancelled their old contracts and used only tracfones; well - #1 - I'd be nearly out of business and #2 - all those other companies and carriers would either go bankrupt or have to completely change the way they do business and I doubt they CAN so - it's basically bankruptcy for all of them.

First - WHY are they untraceable? There is no contract! Your name and address are NOWHERE.

When you buy one at the store, you just pay cash for it. Since there is no contract, no, nada, zilch information ON YOU is given out to the clerk. They ring it through with the bar-code on the package - scanning the bar code activates the phone. Period. The phone doesn't CARE who it belongs to.

So you have now bought your phone, paid cash (why cash? just to be triple sure; but trust me when I tell you it wouldn't matter if you DID use a credit card but I just wouldn't.

You go home and open 'er up. Most of them come loaded with 10 minutes of air time. What is needed and all in the pkg are these items:

  • The phone
  • the SIM Card (important)
  • The battery pack
  • The charger
  • The super easy to understand pamphlet.

You can just log-in to their website (it's on the box) and load as many minutes as you want on your phone! NO CONTRACTS, NO BILLS, NO HIDDEN FEES, NO SURPRISES.

Another way of adding minutes is to buy tracfone airtime cards which can be found nearly anywhere - even at K-mart. They are available at over 70,000 retailers nationwide. yep, no typo - 70,000. The minutes cards come in, I believe, 20 min, 60 min or 120 and 200 min. The website also gives you bonus deal, has specials, etc.... You can even get a deal where you have the phone activated for one year and you get 400 minutes with that.

But it is ALL up to YOU!

It is the only phone I know of that allows you to be in total control of accumulating minutes and days of service. AND get this - being that it has nationwide coverage, it costs the SAME to phone locally as it does to phone long-distance, international too - NO ROAMING FEE, NADA. The phone does not care!

You really HAVE to try these out - if anything I've told you you find not to be accurate - I'll BUY the thing off you. What have you got to lose, $15.00.

Also a major - they are so cheap that you can get one for every kid in your house so they can always be safe, always phone home and can't use excuses. If they say - "I forgot it at home", tell them then I'll take it away if you do that again! - Trust me - they won't forget it again!!

These are really nice phones for so many reasons.

Do they work in japan?

privateye2500 3 years ago

I really don't know.  I am sure their website would tell you.  tracfone.com

I would imagine they have a set up over there....but am just guessing.

The say *nationwide* - meaning I thought all of North America.

privateye2500 3 years ago

I think this will answer your question; you can definitly CALL Japan and the fee is the same as if you call your neighbor...but

I think you can get them in Japan.

Tracfone is not available in Japan. You can call Japan but that does not mean your phone will work in Japan. Tracfone mainly works in the United States. There is some overlap on the borders with Mexico and Canada but their technology does not work outside the US at this time.

I have one that works in Canada but I a sort of close to the border with it.

Thanks for clearing that up zbit :}

SKYPE is also very awesome, it just isn't a phone. You download it for free and use your computer to talk to anyone anywhere in the world for as long as you want for 100% FREE. It works great and the quality is amazing.

Overseas there is a bit of lag time but hay! - that is easy to deal with for no time limit free video phone conversations!!

It'll be interesting to see where all this goes. The internet has really enabled people to be anonymous if they wish to be. Of course you have to be careful about data mining, but life is risk. I do expect governments to crack down on this sort of thing. After all if you can't find someone, you can't tax them. Good information, thanks.

QUOTE: " The internet has really enabled people to be anonymous if they wish to be."

THAT is the most UNTRUE comment IMO I have yet to see. It is, IMO, the EXACT Opposite.

The funny thing is: While you don't sign up with anything, if even one person knows your cell phone number, you can be found. Triangulation software and GPS software can easily locate the phone itself, and, usually, the person along with it.

And since the only way to prevent your phone from being tracked/monitored/etc. is to take the battery out, you may as well not have a phone to begin with.

privateye2500 3 years ago

I agree BUT that is not the type of TrackinG I was reffering to.

I'm also a big fan of TracFone, especially now that my friend tuned me into the international neighbors plan which allows you to call Canada and I believe Mexico for local rates.

I've had tracfones for years - got my whole family on them now and recently helped a lady in the store make up her mind. only draw back can be their customer service dept - you could wait forever and then get someone who only knows the very basics. when i got my last one, needed help, wasn't getting it from C/S so i went searching and found the top brass here in the us and called their office, they got the issue fixed in less than 30 minutes - and i got a few extra minutes for my time.

Man you got THAT right! Their CS really Stinks!

They also do have a lot of drawbacks I have found since writing this a long while back.

Using them out of the country is next to impossible.

You got a *few* extra minutes? They should have given you a 600 minutes card and a gold star for being able to put up with them! lol!

I had a tracfone when I lived in Ohio...living in Canada now and can't use it. But, when they get out of the US, I'll be looking into it...they were easily the cheapest cell phone I have ever used :) And since I'm good with electronics, I generally don't need customer service unless I REALLY have an epic brain fart!

Darn, hit the submit button twice. Sorry about that.

tracphones are untraceable so if you want to make anonymous calls they are THE way to go.

For people that care about saving money and not overspending, Tracfone is definitely the phone for you! My Tracfone is great and has all the features of a contract but it is way cheaper and i get no monthly bills and I didnt have to sign any contracts.

Does anyone know if you can use this phone in Halifax/Dartmouth, NS Canada? Anxious to hear the answer to this.
